Music Ministry

Music Ministry

As a parish we offer a variety of ways for our parishioners to "make a joyful noise." Below are all of our current Music Ministry offerings:

St. Ambrose Choir

St. John the Evangelist Choir

The St. John the Evangelist Choir sings at the 9:00 and 11:00 Masses, with some members singing for one or the other, or both. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at St. John’s from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. The choir season begins in early September and runs until mid-June. The choir provides liturgical music for the Mass, as well as singing stand-alone pieces, or choral anthems. There is no audition requirement; interested individuals would need to contact the Choir Director to schedule a meeting to learn more about the choir and to assess voice-placement. And while music reading is helpful, it isn’t mandatory for participation. Please contact the Director of Music Ministries, Terry Keach, by either calling the office or by email: [email protected]

Combined Choir

Our parish Combined Choir provides music for parish-wide Masses or services such as the annual Day of Remembrance Mass in November, A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols in December, and of course the Triduum, including the Tenebrae service. Combined Choir is open to all Peace of Christ Choir members, and no audition is required. The Combined Choir rehearses on the first Wednesday of the month, starting in October, with an additional Saturday morning rehearsal mid-month. The Wednesday rehearsals are from 7:00 to 9:00 with the Saturday rehearsals from 10:00 to noon. For more information, please contact the Director of Music Ministries, Terry Keach at [email protected].

Handbell Choir

The Peace of Christ Handbell Choir rehearses at St. Ambrose on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 from September to June, and typically plays at the 5:00PM Mass at St. Ambrose on the last Sunday of the month. The Handbell Choir enhances the accompaniment of our congregational singing by adding harmonies and melodies, adding that extra “sparkle” to our song! While previous musical knowledge isn’t mandatory for participation, it is an asset, as our members are trained in the reading of note names, note values and rhythms to participate in music-making more easily. If you are interested in learning more about our Handbell Choir, please contact the Director of Music Ministries, Terry Keach at 585-288-5000, ext. 122 or [email protected].
