Walking with Moms in Need

Walking with Moms in Need

Our parish has embraced a new ministry entitled Walking with Moms in Need, a nationwide initiative supported by the Catholic Diocese and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (www.walkingwithmoms.com). This is a pastoral initiative, not politically or policy driven.

Pregnant and parenting moms in crisis are in our parishes and our neighborhoods, but in desperation, they are turning to anyone for help. Inspired by St. John Paul Il’s call to assess our efforts in building a culture of life, the intention of Walking with Moms in Need is to build the Church’s outreach to these women by providing a listening ear, a caring heart, and a commitment to finding the right support and resources to offer hope and help. There are many ways to get involved to help support moms in our community: making a meal, crocheting, praying, you name it!

Our Mission

  1. Our primary mission for Walking with Moms in Need is to connect moms facing unplanned or challenging pregnancies with local pregnancy resource centers. Members of our core team have personally visited and met with representatives from Birthright, Caring Choices, Compass Care, Focus, Women’s Care Center, and The Margaret Home during the past several months.
  2. A second mission for Walking with Moms in Need is to build relationships with these pregnant moms facing challenges in our parish and neighborhoods, providing spiritual and emotional support as well as helping to provide or locate material assistance, cooking meals, mentoring, etc. We are excited to see how our parishioners will respond with their suggestions to grow this ministry.
  3. Our third mission is to raise awareness and provide vital contact information about local pregnancy resource centers to our parishioners and neighbors. Everyone in our parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need,to receive help at a critical time in her life.
