Welcome to Sacramental Preparation for Confirmation at Peace of Christ Parish!

The basic guidelines for youth to prepare for Confirmation are:

  1. Youth must already have received Baptism and First Eucharist within the Catholic faith;
  2. Youth must be currently enrolled in a Faith Formation program: either in a Catholic school or in a parish, with the willingness to continue his or her spiritual development by enrolling in a youth ministry program following Confirmation;
  3. Youth must be in eighth grade or later, with the ability to complete the two-year sacramental catechesis required of the Sacrament of Confirmation;
  4. The family is registered at Peace of Christ Parish.

                                                The Ritual for Candidates throughout their Confirmation Preparation

As candidates prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation, they will celebrate 3 special rites with their sponsors and the larger community at Sunday Eucharist. During the Easter season of their second year, the candidates will ask for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Year One—Sunday, December 2, 2018 @ 9:00am Mass, St. John the Evangelist Church:  Welcome to the Preparation for Confirmation   The Rite of Welcome allows the candidate to bond with their sponsor (if known at this time; otherwise, family members will attend) and allows the community of faith to bless these teens as they embark on this journey of faith.

Year Two— Sunday, October 21, 2018 @ 9:45am Mass, St. Ambrose Church:  Blessing for the Journey toward Confirmation   During the Commitment to the Journey, which marks the half way point, the  community is invited  to continue to shower the young church with blessings. The candidates are asked to persevere in their journey to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. The sponsors, once again, pledge their support with their words and actions.

Saturday, January 26, 2019 @ 4:30pm Mass, St. James Church:  Year 2 Confirmation Candidates: Prayer and Blessing for Immediate Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation    The Ritual of Affirmation, for both Candidate and their Sponsor reminds them and the community to reflect on their lives and strive to perfect their lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Year Two—  The Sacrament of Confirmation Confirmation imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual markthe “character,” which is the sign that Jesus Christ has marked a Christian with the seal of his Spirit by clothing him with power from on high so that he may be his witness. Date TBD at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

  • Family Reconciliation Service:  in Church  (usually the Sunday before Confirmation)
  • Rehearsal for candidates and sponsors:  in Church (Usually the Tuesday before Confirmation)

Parent/Youth Confirmation Meeting: On Saturday, September 29, 2018, 10am-11am at St. James Church Hall there will be a meeting for  Year 1 ("new" candidates) AND all returning Year 2 Confirmation candidates  who are interested in preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. All youth entering grades 8 and above who are interested in preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation at Peace of Christ Parish may register for our two-year Confirmation preparation program by downloading the form at this link: Registration Form and bring it with you to the meeting. Fees are $25 for Year 1 and $25 for Year 2 for all of the materials. We will also have registration materials at this meeting. Confirmation sessions begin in October. Our Confirmation program is a hybrid program that requires youth to attend one meeting a month face to face with the other Confirmation Candidates, attend one diocesan retreat each year, read from required texts, view videos on pertinent topics, interact with other candidates in an online environment and respond to prompts. We use Loyola Press' Confirmed in the Spirit and St. Mary's Press' The Catholic Connections Handbook for Middle Schoolers (Grade 8) and The Catholic Youth Handbook (Grade 9) as our main texts. Learning is also supported with the YouCat Catholic Catechism for Youth and the Catholic Youth Bible.

For more information, visit the Diocese of Rochester website or contact Melissa Mang, Catechetical Director/Youth Ministry at Peace of Christ Parish at or by calling 288-5000, ext. 121. We look forward to seeing you on September 30th, at St. James Church Hall, 10am-11am.
