First Penance

The basic guidelines for a child to prepare are:

1. The child must be baptized into the Catholic faith.
2. At least one year of Religious Education either in a Catholic school or a parish Religious Education Program must be completed.
3. Current enrollment in a Catholic School or a Religious Education Program is required.
4. The family must be registered at Peace of Christ Parish.

It is worth noting, a child does not have to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before they receive the sacrament of First Eucharist.

A child is more developmentally able to grasp the concept of sin and forgiveness when they are a little older, which is why the sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to children in grades 4 and higher.

First Penance Calendar Fall 2008

Children can prepare for Penance in the Fall (with the celebration taking place in December) or in the Winter (with the celebration taking place in March).
